Following the Sin Update, Dante and Charon high five each other whenever they meet.If you reach the boss wave, they will be reunited until the next floor. Playing in Greed Mode as Dante will alternate between him and Charon every two waves. When defeating the second boss of any floor, two item pedestals will spawn instead of one.
However, if one of the characters teleport into the Boss Room such as through The Emperor card, the other character will join up with the player immediately.Neither character can enter the Boss Room alone. The chains will temporarily disappear when you pick up an active item, allowing you to pass through and continue exploring without switching. The first time Dante and Charon meet up, a dime will drop.If performed when the two are together, it will become one of Charon's items. When picking up any passive item, Phylactery can be activated during the pickup animation to send it to the other character. All items are shared when the two have met up, but when separated their items will be split between them depending on who picked up what item.Because of this, items that would give extra trinket/consumable space such as Mom's Purse, Starter Deck, and Deep Pockets are blacklisted. When joined together, Dante and Charon are able to hold two trinkets and two consumables, but can only hold one when alone.Because of this, there are fewer shops and Devil/ Angel Rooms, but the latter has a higher chance of appearing.Every floor before the Cathedral/ Sheol will have Curse of the Labyrinth.Phylactery will turn into a zero-charge active item, which is used to swap the direction in which Charon fires by activating it and pressing the firing keys (or movement keys, configurable in the Revelation's Options Menu) in the direction the player wants Charon to face. Charon fires tears only in the direction he is facing. The player now controls Dante, with Charon now becoming a familiar-like entity next to Dante. As of Chapter 1, Revelations adds 21 new items to the base game, and in Chapter 2, adds 28.
Some items are passive, which add an effect permanently to the player, while others only activate when used. Items are classified into several distinct types and groups. When both Charon and Dante enter the same room, their health, items, and trinkets will combine into one character. They modify the player's attributes, grant or modify tear effects, and more. The player must traverse through the floor with both Dante and Charon, with the goal being for the two characters to meet up in the same room. When Phylactery is fully charged (after clearing one room) all doors will be chained shut (excluding special rooms like the Treasure Room, Shop, etc.) Using Phylactery here will swap the player to the other character. When beginning a floor, Dante will spawn alone in the starting room, with Charon placed near the end of the floor.
